What Do I Do RIGHT NOW?

Talking about the future and our hope to join God's new creation can sometimes leave us sad about being stuck in this broken world. But that is not how God wants us to see it.

Scripture talks about “eagerly waiting” for His new creation (Romans 8:19). It is good for us to continually look and push toward that hope. But we can’t ignore what is happening here and now. There is still work to be done. We are still called to love others, carry each other's burdens, pray for one another, and continue bringing others closer to Jesus.

In Romans, Paul writes about another thing we can do today as we wait and hope for the future. Romans 8 describes the way creation views its time right now. Both we and all of creation are eagerly waiting, but creation is also “groaning.” Have you ever groaned in frustration? Or sighed in disappointment? We can mourn or lament the time we live in and acknowledge that it’s not as good as eternity will be. BUT we can also live in ways that begin to show glimpses of the new creation now. We offer glimpses of what's to come through Jesus when we worship Him, care for the earth, and share Jesus' love with others.

When we become more like Jesus, we begin to look more and more like His new creation. As Paul says in Romans 12, we begin to transform who we are through our time spent with God, our time in prayer and conversations, and our reading of the Bible. Those moments change us by drawing us closer to the heart of our Creator and ripple to others who begin to see God's new creation through you and me.
