Walk This Way

DAY 21 OF 30

Walk by Faith, Not by Sight

When the turning of each page of your life story has unfolded in ways that have left you unraveling in heartbreak – disappointed because you know that God is able, yet your dreams and desires are still not fulfilled by the One who can speak them into existence. When prayers are wet with tears, wondering if the God who calls each star by name and cares for sparrows really knows how fragile and tender your heart is, and you are anxious to turn the next page, wondering what God has waiting for you...

Ponder the cross and the empty grave.

Our God promised us a Savior and He was faithful to deliver. Death attempted to put up a good fight, but it had no chance of keeping Jesus buried in the grave, and our circumstances have no chance against our God, of holding us hostage in brokenness and fear, leaving us disappointed and discouraged. We can turn to the next page because we have a God who wars for us and does not lose battles. He never fails.

On this side of heaven, we are meant to walk by faith and not by sight. Hebrews chapter 11 highlights what God can do with flawed and imperfect men and women, and how He enabled them to walk by faith - believing Him, taking Him at His word, and trusting Him. The goodness of our God is not that He is looking at how extraordinary our faith is, but that He delights even in our tiniest seed of faith when we offer it to Him, even when our hearts whisper, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief” (Mark 9:24).

God’s providential hand is often out of our sight yet lovingly setting up opportunities for us to walk by faith. The more we know God’s heart, the more we will trust Him. The more we trust Him the more we will walk by faith and not by sight, not because it is easy but because we keep looking to Jesus, “who for the joy set before Him endured the cross” (Hebrews 12:2).

We can turn to the next page of our story with confidence, because we will find Him faithful to be with us, to lead us, and to carry us when needed every step of the way until our faith becomes sight, and we are standing before Jesus.

Reflect & Pray

Lord, thank you that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power that dwells in us and enables us to walk by faith. Remind me daily that my story is Yours to write, so that it puts a spotlight on how faithful, powerful and good You are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Walk This Way

Throughout time, and especially in the Bible, the word “walk” has been used as a metaphor to describe the course, cadence, and overall spiritual direction of our lives. From the Garden of Eden to the present day, part of God’s redemptive call and work is teaching His children to “walk this way,” giving direction, counsel, and guidance to our steps. One thing is clear: He cares how we live our lives and desires that we journey through this life in a way that counts.
