DAY 23 OF 40

Though most of us now take it for granted, the ability to get directions from a GPS system in our cars or on our phones has revolutionized travel. Not that long ago, it was common to see a traveler on the side of the road with a large map, trying to determine the right path to take. Now, GPS technology provides turn-by-turn directions and can even reroute us around delays. These systems rely on a wealth of information to guide us accurately to our destination.

As believers, we have an even greater source of guidance. The Word of God provides all we need to navigate life in a way that honors God. God’s Word clearly outlines our ultimate destination—Christlikeness—and the path to get there. The Holy Spirit, living within us, uses Scripture to direct our steps and to lead us toward this goal. The obstacles, challenges, and decisions we face will not derail us if we are following the leading of the Holy Spirit and walking in obedience to the Word. “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25).

The Holy Spirit’s guidance through the Word of God is sufficient for any need we will face today. Yet, just as with a GPS, problems arise when we choose to ignore His leading. If we turn right when He urges us to go left, we will find ourselves spiritually off course. The good news is that the Holy Spirit not only provides correction but lovingly brings us back to the right path. When we submit to the Holy Spirit’s guidance through the written Word of God, we will stay on the path of His perfect will.
