DAY 3 OF 6

Sound Of Heaven

What comes to mind when you think about Heaven? Maybe you imagine it will be boring, just floating around playing our harps all day. But the picture painted in Scripture is very different.

Matthew 22 says Heaven will be like a King who threw a great feast for his son. In Luke 15, the father threw a grand party for his Prodigal Son, full of music, dancing, and the best food. And in Revelation 19:9, it says, “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” That’s you and me! Heaven is going to be a PARTY, and the whole world is invited. Whatever you’re feeling or going through, there is hope and encouragement available to everyone because of that invitation. And since the earth is full of such a wide variety of sounds, Heaven will be a reflection of that diversity.

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. (Revelation 7:9)

No matter who you are or what you’ve done, there’s room for YOU inside God’s love. And that’s not only when you get to Heaven but also while you’re still here on earth. There’s always more to experience and more to look forward to when it comes to life with God. It’s so easy to get distracted and overwhelmed by the sounds of the world. We are so constantly bombarded with a stream of ‘noise,’ it’s hard to hear the sounds of Heaven. That’s when we have to consciously stop and “Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song,” like it says in Psalm 149:1.

Why is that so important? Verse 6 goes on to say that the praise of God is like a double-edged sword in their hands. Our worship is a literal weapon against the schemes of the enemy! He will do his best to bring us down – to make us depressed and discontent – so we must choose to declare, “Thank you, Jesus! Can’t believe I get to do this life again!”

There is such joy in experiencing some of the sounds of Heaven here on earth. The dictionary tells us that joy is a feeling of great pleasure, happiness, and a sense of well-being. But more so, Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that “The joy of the Lord is our strength.” When the noise around us threatens to overwhelm, there is joy to be found if we listen hard enough. That’s what will give us the strength we need to withstand what comes our way on earth while knowing that, ultimately, our home is in Heaven.

Don’t succumb to the false belief that Heaven will be boring, and don’t forget that there will be no sorrow or strife. It’s going to be a celebration so we can find faith and encouragement for the struggles we face on earth because of the hope and joy promised in Heaven!
