Prayers of the Bible

DAY 6 OF 32

Are you a grateful person? Or someone who often focuses on what’s missing?

Right now, stop and ask yourself: What are you thankful for?

Don’t skip this. Don’t read these words unless you’ve stopped and answered the question above!

Gratitude shapes our perspective. It turns ordinary moments into blessings.

In today’s passage, David prays a prayer of gratitude. God promises that someone from David’s line will be the Messiah, and in response, David can’t help but offer a prayer of thanksgiving:

“O LORD God, for there is none like you, and there is no God besides you.”

It’s easy to thank God and pray prayers of gratitude when life is going well, but the Bible calls us to “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Think about that! We’re always trying to seek God’s will for our lives, and yet how often are we trying to cultivate an attitude of gratitude?

Psalm 107:1 says, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

Colossians 3:17 reminds us, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

And Ephesians 5:20 encourages, “Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Today, ponder this: What can you thank God for right now, even in the midst of your challenges?
