Horizon Church December Bible Reading Plan - Christmas Advent: Jesus, Comeಮಾದರಿ
Christmas Day: The Saviour of the World Has Come
The Gospel of Luke brings us to the humble beginnings of Jesus’s life, born in a stable and laid in a manger, a feeding trough carved from stone. This manger was meant to hold food for animals, not a newborn baby. Yet, here began the life of the Saviour, “wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them” (Luke 2:7). This striking detail became a sign for the shepherds, who were told, “You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger” (Luke 2:12). From birth to burial, Jesus's life was marked by humble details. Just as He was laid in a stone manger at birth, His body was wrapped in linen and placed in a rock-hewn tomb at His death (Luke 23:53).
Galatians 4:4-5 reminds us that Jesus came “when the fullness of time had come,” born to redeem us and to bring us into God’s family. His birth fulfilled God’s plan, intricately woven into human history, and every detail reveals God’s perfect timing and love for us. The Saviour was born to make a way for even the vilest sinner to be forgiven and adopted into God’s family. This is why God did not spare His own Son but gave Him for us all (Romans 8:32).
The nativity story in Luke reminds us that every detail of history unfolds under God’s sovereign care. Even when life seems random or senseless, we can trust that God’s hand is at work for our good and His glory, fulfilled in Jesus.
As we celebrate Christ’s birth, let us join the shepherds, “glorifying and praising God for all the things they had seen and heard, which were just as they had been told” (Luke 2:20). Merry Christmas!
