Day 1: Waiting

“How will he deliver us?” Anika asked.

“He will be filled with God’s own Spirit, and will come to set us free and mend our broken hearts. He will be good and show us how to love each other, and to love Him,” Anna answered.

Anika sighed. When will the Deliverer come?

Waiting is hard. Waiting for a long time for something good, something extra special, to happen, is EXTRA hard.

In this story, Anika was waiting for a rescuer, a Deliverer who would save them from all the wrong things in the world.

In the Bible, God’s people waited together by telling stories, remembering how God had helped before, and hoping for God’s promises to come true today and tomorrow. Though waiting is hard, it is part of trusting in God, of having faith that God sees us, hears us, and helps us. We trust God by remembering how He’s helped us in the past and asking Him for help today and tomorrow.

• What is one thing you want to ask God for help in, whether it is for yourself or someone you love?

Dear God, help me to trust You as I wait. Help me to remember how You have helped me and others before. Please help me and my loved ones again today and tomorrow.
