"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
In our journey of faith, there are seasons when we feel like our efforts go unnoticed or unrewarded. We may pour our time, energy, and resources into doing good, yet the results seem minimal or far away. In these moments, it is easy to become discouraged and weary. But Galatians 6:9 speaks a powerful reminder: we are called to endure and keep the future harvest in mind.
Galatians 6:9 is a reminder that the harvest comes in God's timing, not ours. Just as a farmer plants seeds and waits patiently for the crop to grow, so must we trust that our good deeds will bear fruit at the right time. Our role is to keep sowing the seeds of kindness, love, generosity, and truth, trusting that God is working even when we don't immediately see the results.
Endurance in doing good requires faith. Faith that God sees what we are doing, even when others don’t. Faith that the seeds we plant today will, in due season, yield a bountiful harvest that is far beyond what we could ever imagine. And this harvest may not always come in the form we expect. The harvest might be a transformed heart, renewed strength, or a closer relationship with God.
The apostle Paul encourages us to "not become weary" and to "not give up." Weariness can creep in when we focus too much on immediate results or when we compare our journey to others. But endurance is strengthened when we shift our gaze to the eternal rewards of our efforts. Every act of good we do is significant in God's kingdom, whether it is a simple act of kindness or a major sacrifice. The key is to remain faithful, even in the face of challenges or apparent setbacks.
Reflection
Where in your life do you feel weary from doing good? Is there an area where you have considered giving up because the results seem delayed? Be reminded today that God’s timing is perfect, and His promises are sure. Stay the course, for the harvest is coming.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me not to grow weary in doing good. When I feel discouraged or tired, give me the strength to persevere. Thank you for the promise that a harvest will come in your perfect time. Help me to trust in you and continue sowing seeds of goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
