The Gutsy Girl’s Guide to Prayerಮಾದರಿ
The High Waves
Aren’t you thankful that God included this story about Peter in the Bible? Knowing that even this man could lose faith at times brings much-needed encouragement to us today. Think about it. Peter walked with Jesus throughout His ministry. He saw the sick healed in significant ways. He was in the inner circle of trust with just a few others. He spoke on behalf of Jesus and performed miracles in His name.
Peter had a front-row seat to all that Christ did while on earth. He believed Jesus was who He said He was. and yet still, Peter’s faith faltered. Our human condition is messy. It pulls us away from faith because we’re innately flawed and easily deceived. We’re predisposed to selfishness and pride because we often think we’re our own saviors. And even though we may have a close relationship with Jesus—one we nurture every day—there will be times we sink as we focus on the storms surrounding us. If it happened to a man like Peter, it can happen to us, too.
But chin up! Let’s remember that God isn’t looking for perfection from us. Instead, He’s looking for purposeful living. We’re not expected to get it right every time. It’s just not possible! God isn’t waiting for us to save ourselves. We can’t. When our faith fails and we begin to sink, it’s a privilege (not a burden) to cry out for God to save us once again. And He will. The reality is that we will face high waves in this life. It may be a marriage on the rocks or the challenge of parenting a child who isn’t thriving. It may be financial stress from job loss or anxiety caused by a medical diagnosis. It may stem from therapy dealing with past trauma or fresh suffering. But if we keep our eyes on the Lord through it, we’ll have the guts and grit to walk through the tumultuous seas of life.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me know I am safe with you. Be my anchor so I can stand through the high waves of life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
