Acts 1:12-26 | the Need for Prayer

DAY 1 OF 5

What do you do when you’ve followed Jesus for years only to watch him go up to heaven and leave you behind? You gather with everyone else who believed in him. And pray.

That’s how Acts opens. On the heels of Jesus ascending into heaven, we see his disciples and the other believers – about 120 of them – gathered together in prayer.

Throughout Acts you’ll see the necessity of prayer and the power of prayer. You need prayer. Prayer is an acknowledgement of dependency on God. It’s a reality statement because all of us are dependent on God. Prayer is an ongoing conversation and point of connection with Him.

A person after God’s own heart is a praying person and a church after God’s own heart is a praying church. It’s how those first Christians connected with God, each other, and went about seeking to determine God’s will.

How about you? Are you praying? Does it mark your life and ministry? Are you seeking God? Is your heart tuned towards acknowledging your dependency on Him? Don’t get bogged down trying to evaluate. Just pray.
