4 Things to Consider Before Dating a Non-Christianಮಾದರಿ
Day 4: Consider Your Faith Journey
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” - Hebrews 10:23-24
No matter how much someone likes you — or even loves you — without shared faith, there is a fundamental disconnect. You might not be fully supported or encouraged in your faith journey if you date someone who isn’t a Christian.
Think about how this could impact your faith habits and growth. Are you going to be motivated to go to church on Sunday mornings when they’re sleeping in, playing video games, or going to brunch with friends? Will you feel comfortable praying or discussing your spiritual insights if they don't understand or share your enthusiasm?
Hebrews 10:23-24 encourages us to hold firmly to our faith and to inspire one another in love and good deeds. But what happens when the person you’re dating doesn’t have the same commitment to Christ? Over time, these differences can create a disconnect that impacts the foundation of your relationship with each other — and with God.
Sharing your spiritual insights and experiences can be difficult if they don't understand or appreciate your views. You may find yourself hesitant to discuss what God is doing in your life or pray together if it makes your partner feel uncomfortable. If they don't support or encourage your faith, it can become a challenge to nurture and grow your relationship with God.
It's super important to have a partner who can spur you on in your faith, who will pray with you, attend church with you, and engage in meaningful spiritual conversations. This type of partnership not only strengthens your faith but also helps you both grow in your walk with Christ.
Before getting into a relationship, think about how a relationship with a non-Christian might influence your spiritual habits. Are you willing to potentially face these challenges? Ultimately, your faith journey is precious and deserves careful consideration. After all, your relationship with God is the most important relationship in your life. Nobody and nothing should come between that.
