Learning to Pray: The GRACE Prayer System

DAY 5 OF 5

Entreat

If you remember day one of this devotional, we looked at some Scriptures that talk about the power of prayer. Today we’re looking specifically at the ways that we ask in prayer, or entreat, which is the final step in our process.

The key here is that we want to align the things that we ask for with God’s will, or in other words, the things that are on His heart. In 1 John 5:14-15 there’s a extraordinary promise related to this. It says that if we ask anything according to His will, we know that He hears us. And if we know that He hears, we have the petitions that we’ve asked of Him.

Think about this for a moment. The more in line our prayers are with the heart and will of God, the more success we have. That’s not to say that God doesn’t care about your job, your friends, the relationship you want, or your bank account. On the contrary, He loves you and wants the best for you. He doesn’t want you to be anxious about any of those things. In fact, his word says we should be anxious about nothing, but to come to Him in prayer about everything.

At the same time, as we bring situations, people, and challenges to God, we want to hear what He has to say about each one. As we take time to sit with God and ask Him what is on His heart, we discern what His will is for each situation that we bring to Him. And as we do, we can direct our prayers in a more direct, and successful way.

Daily Challenge:

Take a moment and write a little list of five (5) things or subjects that you want to pray about. They can be personal things or things for other people. Maybe people you know are sick or you have challenges you're facing at work. Whatever the case, make a list of five things, then spend five minutes praying to God and asking Him to speak to you about each of these things. Ask Him what is on His heart and what things He wants you to pray. From there, spend a few minutes praying in the name of Jesus for the things you sensed from the Lord.

Encouragement to Practice GRACE in Prayer:

We hope you enjoyed this devotional. As you practice the GRACE acronym—Gratitude, Reverence, Admit and Confess, Entreat—you will develop a deeper and more intimate prayer life. Trust that as you approach God with thanksgiving, revere Him for His greatness, admit and confess your sins, and earnestly entreat your requests, you will experience breakthrough in your prayer life.
