DAY 18 OF 21

John Chapter 18
Title: Walking Through Trials

Scripture: John 18:11
So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”

Thought:
John 18 narrates Jesus' arrest and Peter's subsequent denial. This chapter is filled with intense emotions and significant moments that lead to the crucifixion. Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen, stepped forward willingly to be arrested. When Peter tried to defend Him by striking the high priest’s servant, Jesus commanded him to put away his sword, emphasising His submission to the Father’s will.

Jesus is our perfect example of what it means to “take up the cup of suffering” willingly and courageously. He remained calm, not a word of complaint crossed His lips, and He maintained a wonderful attitude through his trials. He endured patiently, recognising that the ultimate end was the complete victory over the enemy.

Application:
You might be feeling bombarded from every side – attacks from every side, a difficult work environment, battling illness, dealing with difficult kids, bills piling up - sometimes it seems like challenges never end.

The Apostle Paul reminds us of God’s unfailing love and our unparalleled victory in Christ.

Romans 8:35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Because of Jesus, we can resolve to walk in “God-confidence” through every trial. Remember that He deeply loves you, that all things are working out for your good, and that He knows just how much you can take.

Prayer:
Lord, help me today to follow you willingly and courageously into every circumstance. Help me to remain calm and maintain an attitude that honours you. Thank you that nothing today will separate me from the love of Christ. I put my confidence in you again. Amen.
