Control Freak?!ಮಾದರಿ
Fast Forward
Today’s remote control function we’ll consider is the fast forward button. Ever wish you could use this? We are currently toilet training our daughter, and if I could, I would fast forward this messy, stressy, ‘wee all over my rug’ stage in a heartbeat. (My rug is now in the garage awaiting a trip to the tip - it’s just too far gone - no amount of Febreze could mask the wee soaked rug smell). If I could fast forward and not have to cover the sofa every day with puppy training pads and old bedsheets, I would be delighted. I can’t wait until the toilet training is complete and I don’t have to ask every thirty minutes if anyone needs a wee, trying to act casual about it when really, I’m at psycho level potty police. The truth is, if I did fast forward through my potty police phase, there would likely be another struggle ready and waiting for me in the next scene!
We cannot fast forward to the easy bits in life. We must be people who are committed to ‘process’. We must realise that our character is shaped by the challenges in the difficult days. These days mould us into a more Jesus-like person. Jesus didn’t fast forward the extreme challenges in his life, but rather, he endured the cross, because of his love for us. There are some stages in our lives we may have to endure rather than enjoy. You may currently be experiencing an extremely difficult time in your life, please take hope today that you are not walking alone. Jesus understands immense pain and struggle and he’s right there in the thick of it alongside you.
Fast forward may be a popular function in our fast-paced culture, but God’s ways are often much slower and much more focused on our spiritual growth. Don’t try to skip the hard times, but rather consider, how am I learning and growing through this challenge?
Reflection - What current circumstance of life would you like to fast forward? Share with God the struggles involved in this. Ask him for the strength to endure and a renewed sense of him walking by your side.
Prayer - God, please use this struggle I’m facing to form my character to be more like yours. I ask you to help me recognise that you are using this challenge to develop perseverance, character and hope within me. Amen.
