Reflections on Truth

DAY 30 OF 31

One of the reasons I really love reading the Bible is because it is full of true-life stories of individual people, just like you and me. People who didn’t always have it altogether, and who for a number of different reasons, had made their mistakes over the course of their lives. However, many of those very same people, amid their disappointments and failures, had also come to encounter and experience the love, grace, and mercy of God, and in doing so, their lives were changed forever.

King David, the writer of Psalm 86, was one of these people. Amongst his many accolades, accomplishments, and achievements, the Bible also reminds us of the seasons in his life, where he too had fallen short and made some serious mistakes. Nonetheless, despite his personal shortcomings, David learnt quickly about the importance of both turning to and trusting in the Lord.

In this particular verse, David humbly asks to be taught the ways of the Lord. He knows from personal life experience that his ways do not compare, nor do they measure up to the ways of the One, whom he has put his trust in. For us as believers, this is an important reminder that just like David, our ways are limited, but God’s ways are limitless and it is to His ways, His will, and His teachings, that we should be looking to and enquiring of often.

As we begin to ask the Lord to teach us His ways, I believe we’ll become better equipped and able to walk in those ways. If there was ever a time whereby, we needed to be guided and walking in the way of ‘real truth’, then it is now. David’s deep desire to know God’s unchanging and ageless truth indicates a longing on his part to live a life guided by divine wisdom, knowledge, and discernment. As we seek to walk in the way of truth and draw closer to the One who is Truth, then our hearts and minds will become more aligned and akin to Him.

Prayer:

Lord, may you teach us your ways, that we may walk in your truth, and in doing so, bring glory to your name, in Jesus’ name, Amine.
