Surrender 101

DAY 2 OF 10

Indeed, the concept of surrendering to God is deeply rooted in many spiritual truths. The idea is that by relinquishing our egos, desires, and control over outcomes, we open ourselves up to receive God's blessings, guidance, and grace. This surrender involves trust, faith, and humility, acknowledging that God’s power is beyond our comprehension and that surrendering to His perfect plans leads to greater fulfillment, growth, and alignment with our true purpose. The act of surrender doesn’t always mean we lose something we want, but it often leads to something greater than ourselves.

We are encouraged to trust in Jesus even when we don’t understand, especially when things spiral out of control or when our world is crashing down.

Isaiah 26:3 encourages us to trust, You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

This is easy to recite but very difficult to do, especially in times of the unknown.

But we hold this truth close to our obedience and trust, as told in Philippians 4:6-7, Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything you can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

The Hebrew word for surrender is “hikni'a,” which can also be translated as "submit" or "yield." This word conveys the idea of giving in or yielding to our higher authority and to God's power. This isn’t a new concept but an action with scriptural ties.

Let’s look at some examples: Abraham followed God’s leading to surrender in Genesis 22. God commands Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac to test his faith and obedience. Abraham demonstrates his willingness to surrender to God's will by preparing to conduct the sacrifice. However, at the last moment, God provides a ram for the sacrifice instead of Isaac, sparing his life. This story is often cited as an example of Abraham's profound faith and willingness to submit to God, even amid incredibly difficult and challenging circumstances. Truth be known, the Bible is full of stories of how God brought humility to a person, which brought them to full surrender to receive His glorious plans.

About this Plan

Surrender 101

Surrender is giving up control and giving in to God’s control. It’s not a passive move but an active release. When you stop trying to make things happen your way and trust God, circumstances will work out according to His plan. This 10-day plan gives examples of biblical greats who surrendered what they couldn’t control, released it, and trusted God in the face of many uncertainties.
