Finding Fulfillment at Work

DAY 1 OF 4

Finding Fulfillment at Work: Part I

According to a Gallup study, employee engagement declined in 2022 to 32%. More than 2/3 of workers do not feel committed to their work.

One of the key areas of decline was employees’ lack of connection to the mission or purpose of their organization. Work with no purpose feels meaningless.

Everyone has within them the desire to feel like their life and work matters. We were designed by God to serve a divine purpose even when we don’t understand God’s ways.

Proverbs 16:4 says, “The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.”

God has a purpose for your work even if your employer hasn’t clearly defined it for you. If the organization you work for is surviving in business, and especially if it is prospering, it is because they are filling a need in the marketplace.

Their services or products are advancing the common good of society. Your role in that organization is more important than just providing a paycheck for you and your family.

You are a part of your organization’s purpose and God has designed you and has a plan for you vocationally. In this series we’ll help you better understand your purpose and calling.

Questions for Reflection

  • What need is your organization meeting that advances the common good for your community? How does your role impact the success of your organization?
  • How do you feel when you have performed with excellence? How do you think God feels when you perform well?
  • What can you do differently at work that would enhance your organization and put a smile on God’s face?
