Real Hope: Trust

DAY 2 OF 7

Trusting Against Ourselves

Life hits each of us differently. Our struggles and challenges vary from person to person, and how we handle them is significant in creating the character we carry in life.

For me, I’ve learned that when things go horribly wrong, I tend to be ok. But, when things go slightly wrong, I completely fall apart. I can handle big challenges, like earlier in marriage when we were down to our last dollar, I just felt at peace and smiled through it all. Small hardships, like a difference of opinion, completely undo me and leave me overwhelmed and almost paralysed to move on in any way until it is resolved.

The difference between the two is simple. The bigger the challenge, the more I realise how completely beyond me it is and I find myself increasingly mindful of the presence of my big, problem-solving, working-all-things-for-good God. In the small things, it takes me a while to realise that I don’t have to be in it on my own.

Proverbs shows us that our best option, in big and small things, is to trust God confidently. When it looks like things are falling apart, in God’s economy things could just be falling into place. To trust Him means to put aside our limited, biased, skewed understanding of what’s going on and to centre our minds, hearts and souls on who we know Him to be and who we are in Him.

What can you trust God with today?
