Seeds: What and Why

DAY 4 OF 4

Day 4- The Seeds of The Kingdom of God

So, I am recreated because of Jesus, and the change that I’m responsible for developing is loving people. That sounds great, but is there something more?

(Mark 4:30-32, [NLT])

“Jesus said, “How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it? It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade” (Mark 4:30-32, [NLT]).

Jesus was the mustard seed planted in the ground; He came meek and underestimated. However, what grew out of Him was larger than anything that came before in this garden, Earth! Now, what is this Kingdom of God that He is describing?

(Mark 4:3-11, [NLT])

“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seed. As he scattered it across his field, some of the seed fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate it. Other seed fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seed sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plant soon wilted under the hot sun, and since it didn’t have deep roots, it died. Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants so they produced no grain. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they sprouted, grew, and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” Then he said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand ” (Mark 4:3-11, [NLT]).

Later, when Jesus was alone with the twelve disciples, and with the others who were gathered around, they asked Him what the parables meant (Mark 4:10, [NLT]).

He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secret of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables for everything I say to outsiders” (Mark 4:11, [NLT]).

(Matthew 28:18-20, [NLT])

“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20, [NLT]).

We have a mission from God Himself. It is the same as in Genesis, to tend to the seeds and fill the Earth, not with natural seed, but supernatural (Genesis 1:11-12, [NLT])! We are now commissioned to go out as farmers and plant the seed of the Word, the good news of the Gospel (Matthew 28:18-20, [NLT])! We have not been commissioned out to look only for good soil to sow the Word into, but to ALL soil in an effort to give every person the opportunity to receive the seed and allow it to produce a harvest in them (Matthew 28:18-20, [NLT]).

(Revelation 14:14-15, [NLT])

“Then I saw a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was someone like the Son of Man. He had a gold crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand” (Revelation 14:14, [NLT]). “Then another angel came from the Temple and shouted to the one sitting on the cloud, “Swing the sickle, for the time of harvest has come; the crop on earth is ripe (Revelation 14:15, [NLT]).”

There is a day when the farming, the seed planting, will be complete and Jesus will execute a final harvest. This is the Kingdom of God, and we are to work its fields. That seed is Jesus, and the harvest is more brothers and sisters brought into this family, recreated by that immortal seed.

We have been recreated and transformed from God’s seed, and now we are composed of the same things that He is! The biggest expression of this is love, and it should affect every area of our lives. What greater expression of love is there, than to fulfill the Great Commission God gave us, and give our earthly lives to spread the seed of Jesus and grow the Kingdom of God?

This is where you’ve come from, where you’re going, and why you’re here.
