DAY 8 OF 10

Being Secure By Feeding Yourself

If ever you are ill and need medicine, there is no point in it staying in the cupboard. If you have a fever or a backache you have to take the medicine in the way it has been prescribed, until you feel its effects. The right medicine is comforting isn’t it? It helps us begin to feel better, sometimes even before it has started working.

Many of us think we can go through life without medicating and feeding ourselves on God’s Word. We face all sorts of trials and pain but God’s Word stays on the shelf or shut away in the cupboard. I am always amazed that we can live like this when we have such open access to our own healing.

There must be a bad joke somewhere about Moses having a headache and God telling him to take two large tablets for it?! But it is true. The Bible, the laws of God are like medication for us. They help us in our decisions and actions.

Psalm 119:103 says, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” The words that God has provided are good for us. So much so that they make a positive difference to the way we think and feel.

I was once at a retreat center. Whilst there I had decided to fast and spend time reading my Bible. I vividly remember that I was very hungry. My empty tummy was a real distraction. It grumbled away as I tried to read. So I prayed. As I carried on reading I had the oddest sensation that I was “eating”. I began to feel the words filling me up and I experienced a clear physical sensation of being fed.

Some of us feel empty and insecure because we are chewing on the words of the world. Perhaps we need a change of diet?

Prayer: Lord, thank you that your desire is to do me good. Thank you that your Word is full of health-giving wisdom. Please teach me how to access that and grow in my security as a result. Amen.

About this Plan

In Security – Ems Hancock

'Insecurity is based on doubt. It asks deep questions like “Do I matter? Am I important? Am I loved?” It also asks shallower questions like, “Does this suit me? Can I get away with this haircut?” Whoever you are and whatever you do, you will have times when you feel insecure. This plan offers simple practical ways to apply biblical truth when insecurity strikes.
