I Have Faith for Thisಮಾದರಿ
DAY 2 – A Heart to Help
The story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17, sees the giant enemy Goliath intimidating the armies of Israel. Goliath was an enormous, seemingly impossible obstacle to them. Can you relate to that?
The story of David’s victory over Goliath exemplifies how, through faith, God’s people can confront life’s giants. Imagine young David boldly saying, “Don’t worry about the Philistine, I will fight him.” — in other words: I HAVE FAITH FOR THIS! What gave David this faith? We are going to unpack this over the next few days together.
Firstly, David had a heart to help: “David went back and forth so he could help his father with the sheep in Bethlehem.”(v15)
If we're going to go forward and have that spirit that says, “I have faith for this”, we need to reach out to others who face challenging situations.
That word ‘help’ means ‘to feed’; ‘to shepherd’; ‘to be a companion to’; ‘to keep company with’; to be a special friend to’. What a beautiful word! Let's continue to choose a heart that wants to come alongside.
In our annual ‘Wrap and Pack’ in December our church packed over 12,000 food hampers and toys for people who don’t have enough at Christmas. This shows that our church has a heart to help and that's amazing!
I pray as we march forward into our future, we never lose our hearts to help others in our community. If we have a heart to help, we can always say, “I have faith for this” because we are doing something beyond ourselves.
Prayer:
Lord God, I pray that I would have a heart to help others like David. Please open my eyes to see those around me that are in impossible situations and do what I can to help and have faith for their future. Right now, I lift before You those who I know who need a miracle breakthrough in some area of their life, and I pray that I can come alongside them in both practical and spiritual ways to be a faith-filled companion.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
