DAY 4 OF 11

The Passover

Even as God promises the last plague on Egypt, the God who was proving to the Israelites and the others that He favored the Israelites gave the Israelites a task to do. They had to follow a set of instructions to escape the last plague. Those who chose to disobey had the same fate of the Egyptians. I am sure if the Egyptians followed, what the Lord had told the Israelites to do, their firstborn would have been spared.

God's instructions at various points have significance in our lives. The Passover meal was simplified by Jesus in the New Testament and is the communion we take today. The Passover signified the passing over of the angel of death over the first born of the family, who cared to obey the Passover instructions. In the same way the communion signifies the death of Christ for our sins today if we follow Christ.

Now the Israelites witnessed how God had saved then from plagues and had led them out of Egypt. Yet all this was not enough for them to trust God as they started complaining when they saw the Egyptians following them. God knew they would change their minds and return to Egypt if they faced war, so He planned a longer route for them.

It's so easy to believe the Red Sea story as it’s known today. Just imagine ourselves there, we are camping, suddenly we see the Egyptians coming. The cloud which was leading us moves back and separates us from the Egyptian’s. Then we see Moses lifting his staff and the Red Sea parting. We may be joyful for the way but suddenly we realize the walls are water, what if they fall on us?

Ok we take courage and decide to step in but we don’t see the other side. Questions arise in our mind, what if the path is just halfway? Now there is a mass of people moving and we just follow, if we go forward we may escape if there is way but if we stay back we will definitely be killed. The shortest width of the Red Sea is about eighteen miles or twenty nine Kilometers. It sure needs a lot of courage and belief to cross the Red Sea.

What are some of the, what if’s, that are hindering us from having faith and moving towards our promised land today?
