NT24 Fastಮಾದರಿ
Day 19 by Jevanna Cherrington, Women’s Pastor of UPPERROOM Dallas
Today’s Reading: Hebrews 11-13
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)
As we journey through Hebrews chapters 11 to 13, we are invited to reflect deeply on the essence of faith, the importance of discipline, and the practicality of Christian living.
Chapter 11, often celebrated as the "Faith Hall of Fame," provides an inspiring definition of faith: the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen. This chapter is a roll call of faith heroes like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah, reminding us that true faith trusts God's promises, even when they are not immediately visible or understandable.
Not long ago, I yearned for motherhood, a time when my faith seemed less visible. In that period, the vivid examples of faith demonstrated by the Biblical characters in Hebrews 11 inspired my journey. As I meditated on their stories, I discovered that faith is like a muscle that allows us to perceive the unseen order of God's workings. Developing and strengthening this 'faith muscle' was a challenging yet profoundly rewarding journey. This insight has been crucial in reshaping my understanding of faith. It has taught me the value of perseverance and the significance of trusting in God's timing and plans, even when they are not immediately apparent.
Moving into Chapter 12, we are encouraged to run our Christian race with perseverance, drawing inspiration from these heroes of faith. It teaches us to view life's challenges as disciplines from the Lord, intended not to harm but to cultivate righteousness and peace within us. The chapter beautifully directs us to Jesus, the founder, and perfecter of our faith, urging us to keep our eyes fixed on Him.
Chapter 13 transitions into practical advice for living out our faith. It speaks of love, hospitality, empathy, purity, contentment, and integrity in following Christ. This chapter translates our faith into action, reminding us that faith is not just about believing but also about living according to the teachings of Jesus.
Questions:
- How can the examples of faith demonstrated by the Biblical characters in Hebrews 11 inspire and strengthen your faith journey, especially in times of waiting or uncertainty?
- In what practical ways can you exercise and build your 'faith muscle' in daily life, drawing lessons from the challenges and disciplines described in Hebrews 12?
Declare this over yourself today: I declare that my faith is grounded in the assurance of God's promises and the conviction of His unseen works. I commit to running my race with perseverance, embracing the Lord's discipline as an expression of His love and a tool for my growth. I will live out my faith through love, hospitality, empathy, and integrity, keeping my eyes steadfastly on Jesus, the perfecter of my faith. Amen.
