JESUS FOR EVERYONE
It’s no surprise that faith conversations will be different depending on both context and audience. Think about it. The way that a Christian discusses faith with a Chinese concert pianist and a blue-collar worker from upstate NY will be different. What about sharing with a Muslim Imam or a Hollywood playboy? Imagine a faith discussion with a middle school boy verses an Ivy League feminist? Think about the vast differences in struggles, concerns, and world views. Each conversation must look and sound different. For this reason, Christians are called to take different approaches to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with different people.
The Apostle Paul talks about this concept in 1 Corinthians. Paul explained his willingness to put aside his own personal preferences and personal priorities in order to show interest in another person. Why? So that he might show them Christ - in a way that they understand and that’s meaningful to them. It’s the ultimate in unselfishness to meet someone where they are, with genuine care and respect, in hopes of helping them come to know Jesus.
What about you? Are you willing to meet people where they are in order to share the truth of the Gospel? We should be – because Jesus does the same for each one of us. He meets us in our sin, our shame, and our brokenness, and offers us a new life through Him. Do you remember who first shared Jesus’ story with you? Then why aren’t you sharing it with others? It’s the greatest gift you can give them!
