You Are Not the Judge

DAY 1 OF 3

Day One

“There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you, judging your neighbor?“ - James 4:12

Isn’t it funny how easily we make judgments in our minds towards people?

It’s one thing to have discernment—never lose that—but it’s another thing to just assume and cast judgment upon someone because there’s just something about them that you don’t like.

One definition of judgment is “to separate.” I never realized until reading that definition that when you judge someone, you are literally separating yourself from them. Thinking something wrong about a person based on what you see, even if you’ve seen a lot, doesn’t justify your negative judgments toward them.

When you judge someone, you’re putting a dividing line between you and the person you are judging. You are categorizing that person because they don’t meet “your standard” of how someone should act, dress, talk, etc.

Hear me loud and clear: This does not mean that we should condone sinfulness, but it does mean that we should extend the same grace that God so free-willingly extends to us.
