Pray the Word

DAY 8 OF 21

God's Word Will Stand Forever

Look around you in the world and see all the things that will one day fade away: grass, flowers, and all kinds of things in nature. Or think about the temporary nature of your work: you won’t have your current job forever. Then there’s the temporary nature of your health: one day your body will fade. That’s not meant to be depressing. It’s just reality.

Isaiah 40:8 reminds us that everything in this world is going to fade. Therefore, we should live today for that which will matter forever, and we do that by spending time in God’s everlasting Word.

The most basic things in this life, including the things you find pleasure in right now, are going to fade. God is telling us, through Isaiah, to look to his Word, because it will stand forever.

If you are a follower of Christ, recognize the wonder of God’s Word and the value of spending time in it. You may regret certain earthly pursuits, but you will never regret time spent in God’s Word. Unlike everything else around us, it will never fade.

Prayer

God, we praise you for this word from Isaiah 40:8 about your Word. Your words are true and your words are lasting. They last forever. They’re a rock that we can stand on today, they’re a rock that we can stand on tomorrow, and they’re a rock that we will be standing on ten trillion years from now. So, God, help us to value your Word.

Please keep us from going through our days without listening to your Word and without banking our lives on it. We need your Word. It is good now, and it will be good forever, so help us to read it. Help us to study it. Help us to understand it. Help us to memorize it. Help us to hide it in our hearts, to meditate on it. God, help us to obey it. We know that eternal life, everlasting life, is found in your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
