DAY 18 OF 21

The God Who Listens

In Psalm 4, the psalmist spoke of how he could lie down in peace because the Lord made him dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8). Now, as the psalmist wakes up in the morning, we see in today's verse that he is confident that the Lord will hear his voice. We too can have that same confidence. From the moment we wake up, God is ready to listen to our prayers.

The psalmist also mentioned preparing a sacrifice for the Lord and watching for him. We’re reminded of Romans 12:1, where we’re urged to present our bodies as a “living sacrifice” in light of God’s mercies in the gospel. This is a great way to start your morning, by going before God and offering your body as a living sacrifice. Then, like the psalmist, watch to see how God will lead you and guide you and accomplish through you what only he can do. Isn’t that the way you want to live? Then rise in the morning and lift your voice to God. He is the God who listens to his people.

Prayer

God, we lift our voice to you. We are so thankful that your ear is attentive to us. From the moment we are conscious in the morning, you hear our voice. So thank you, God, for new mercies for each new day. Thank you for life and breath for another day. We love you, God. We praise you as our God, and we offer ourselves as living sacrifices before You. Here is our life today. Spend us however you want.

Lead us and guide us by your Spirit. We pray for your strength, your help, and your peace that guarded us all through the night—may it also guard our hearts and minds all through the day. Help us not to be worried or anxious about anything but to trust you with all our heart.

Lord, we watch. We can’t wait to see what you will do—how you will provide, how you will lead, how you will guide us, how you will show yourself strong on our behalf today. We live by faith in you, knowing that you will hear our voice all day long and that your ear will be attentive to us.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
