Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 10

DAY 20 OF 23

Changing the City starts with changing our homes. Who we are at home needs to be consistent with what the external world sees – for then, sustainable change takes place.

Being a City Changer is not solely: “going out and making disciples”, but it is also (constantly) living in the divine image God made us to be. Imagine if everyone lived out their godly potential – how would this world look? One of my favourite quotes is: "Good leaders lead by example." So, if we want to lead people into discipleship and to a better way of living, we have to be that already. But what does this living look like?

Titus 2:11-12 states: ”For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.” Many characteristics are named to describe the godliness spoken about in verse 12. These are things like self-control, kindness, submission, sober-mindedness, steadfastness, love and purity.

But doesn’t this sound so familiar? Yes! It is the fruit of the Spirit we read about in Galatians 5:22-23:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

How wonderful it is to know that the ability to live a godly life is already given to us. If we accept the work of the Holy Spirit within us and obey his continuous leading, we are being the good women, men, servants and children that Titus 2 speaks about. That obedience to the Spirit creates in us kindness, self-control, love, etc.

Ask yourself: “How can I create intentional moments throughout my day to practice the awareness of the Holy Spirit’s lead and voice?”
