Sing Like Never Before - Matt Redmanಮಾದರಿ
The Father Song – Zephaniah 3:17
This song is one of those songs that just seems to land on you somehow. And you think, “I’m not sure where that came from.” I just started to think about all the different songs that I could sing before God and how one song far outweighs them all, the Father Song, the song that He sings over us. We love because He first loved us.
The song is actually rooted in Zephaniah 3:17, which talks about the Lord rejoicing over us with singing. What an incredible thought… that God rejoices over us with singing. Yes, we rejoice over Him, but before we ever do that our Heavenly Father is rejoicing over us with singing! In the song I call it “heaven’s perfect melody, the Creator’s symphony, the Father’s song.” I finished writing the song and in that moment I realized, “Wow, I am going to be a father in a few months.” I realized what an amazing time it was to write this as I would be a father for the first time in a few months.
Just as interesting, the week we were recording the song, we were in the studio and I realized it would have been my dad’s sixtieth birthday. He died when I was seven years old. It was just an incredible moment recording a song called “The Father Song” about how our Heavenly Father rejoices over us, delights in us, and showers us with His fatherly love. Because of my Heavenly Father I’ve never really felt fatherless.
The Psalms say He is a Father to the fatherless. And it was just a lovely thing for me to realize “Wow, I’m gonna be a father soon.” and “Wow, my dad died all those years ago, but here I am hearing the Father’s song sung over me.” I think it’s good for all of us sometimes to even stop singing for a little while and just drink in and receive and hear the Father’s song being sung over us.
