thDay 5: Discover Your Gifts
From creation, God had a purpose for you. You are created with specific gifts that are unique to you. You have dreams and passions that are personally gifted to you by God. He knew what gifts would be crucial for you to fulfill your role in His kingdom. You may not know your unique gifts yet, but if you are dedicated to honest reflection, trial and error, setting goals, improvement, persistence, and trusting the process, you will find that the gifts God has for you have been within you from the creation of your DNA.
David is a great example of what the discovery process looks like. He was an anointed harp player long before he defeated the Philistine giant Goliath. David was often called on to play his harp for King Saul to soothe his mind from fear and David brought peace to other people around him. David allowed the Lord to use him however He saw fit with whatever gifts he had. This is the discovery process that led David to his calling.
When you rely on God to show you what your gifts are, the pressure is off. Why? Because everything you need to fulfill your purpose is already inside you. The discovery process is ultimately surrendering your will to God’s will. When you do that, you won’t look at things with the eyes of the physical world. As you fix your eyes on things above, the Lord will show you the gifts He’s placed in you that you could never see on your own. This will lead you into your God-given calling.
One more thing to remember: There is no room for comparison in the kingdom of heaven. Scripture says that in the body of Christ, each person is like a part of the physical body—all the parts are needed for the body to function properly (1 Corinthians 12:12, 27). It’s beneficial for people to operate in their unique gifts and roles for the body of Christ as a whole. That includes you and your unique gifts. Don’t search for or pursue gifts that you wish you had. Instead, start operating in the gifts the Lord has for you. During this discovery process, turn your eyes to the One who will reveal the gifts that are already inside you and will help you develop them.
So, what will you do with what God has given you? Will you hide it away? Will you compare what you have to what others have? Or will you do your part with what God has given you? Will you take the time to discover what is already knitted within you? Will you dedicate time and energy to developing your gifts properly? If you’re willing to operate in the gifts He’s given you and to walk in the calling He has for you, you’ll find the purpose He always intended for you.
Prayer
God, thank You for giving me gifts that are intentionally and intricately designed specifically for me. Reveal to me what my gifts are. Don’t let me operate in anything but full partnership with You and these gifts You’ve placed inside me. Give me a heart like David’s and take me through the discovery process that leads me to my calling. Give me opportunities to work in ways that complement the gifts of others around me. Amen.
