Counting The Cost And The Waiver Wire
One of the ways we improve our Fantasy team is by adding players off the waiver wire. With limited roster spots, there are always free agents available to pick up throughout the season.
Leagues set up waiver wires differently, but most require a Fantasy manager to decide how much they are willing to give up to sign an available player.
That means we have to decide how much a free agent is worth. We have to assess our circumstances, and then assign a value to the player we want to add.
We must also factor in what it means to release a player from our current roster. Ultimately, we determine if the cost of the transaction is worth what we will receive in return.
Counting the cost as we make decisions is something we’re constantly doing in our day-to-day life. Whether at work or home, there is always value needing to be assigned to things.
Jesus invites us to follow Him and offers us the free gift of salvation. However, He warns us that we must count the cost of “picking up” our cross and “dropping” our former way of life.
Luke 14:26-28 explains Jesus’ life-changing challenge:
“If you want to be My disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be My disciple. And if you do not carry your own cross and follow Me, you cannot be My disciple. But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?”
This passage reveals how serious Jesus is about our commitment to Him. While He’s offering us eternal life, He’s also calling us to value and love Him more than anything else.
In Fantasy Football, we willingly give up whatever it takes to add the players we believe in. Today, let’s count the cost of following Jesus and decide we will do whatever it takes to be His disciple.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross for me. I desire to fully surrender my life to Him. I know it might cost me on earth, but there’s nothing more valuable than spending eternity with You. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
