My Identity in Christಮಾದರಿ
Sons and daughters of God
“But as many as received him, to them He gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).
The family you were born and raised in determines your identity for the greater part. Who your parents are, your brothers and sisters, the way you were raised, whether your family was rich or poor, what education you received, all those things influence your individuality greatly.
The ones who follow Jesus become children of God. You have the honour to call God your ‘Abba’ or ‘Father’, or Daddy even (Gal. 4:6). And Jesus is now your older Brother (Rom. 8:29). You have become part of an enormous family having millions of brothers and sisters all over the world.
As a child of God there is an inheritance stored up for you: eternal life with Christ. The Holy Spirit is the guarantee for that inheritance - a kind of deposit or down payment. It is the seal that proves that you belong to Jesus. Followers of Christ are wealthy children: an inheritance awaits them more beautiful than anyone could have imagined (1 Corinthians 2:9).
How are you affected by the thought that Jesus is your Brother and that His followers all over the world are your brothers and sisters?
About this Plan
Our identity is defined by personal attributes such as character, gender and colour of skin, but also by the groups that we belong to. You may ask yourself: how do I view myself? How do others see me? The most important question however is: How does God see me? Who am I in Christ?
