Real Hope: Constant God

DAY 4 OF 6

Consistency

Consistency, in my opinion, is underrated. It can be hard to find in our fast-paced world that is constantly changing to adapt to new technology and our dwindling attention spans. Consistency isn’t exhilarating or dramatic or ‘cool’ but it’s incredibly powerful and we’ve come to expect certain things to be constant in our lives. We expect our internet connection to be constant.

We expect banks and hospitals and cafes (of equal importance in my opinion) to open up on time. We pay for our water and electricity and demand a constant flow. We show up for our friends and family and we expect that they’ll also be there for us in tough times. We expect these things to be constant in our lives and yet we can’t truly rely on them. We’ve all been disappointed by our spotty internet connection, unexpected bills and, sadly, loved ones who let us down.

Inconsistency is very human. Nothing in our world is truly constant, which is why our relationship with God is so unique. James 1:17 describes how God never changes. And not only does He remain constant, but He is also unfailingly good and consistently kind.

The most unique thing about our relationship with God is that it doesn’t require consistency on our part. God’s love doesn’t ebb and flow depending on our church attendance or whether we’re tithing or donating to important causes. God’s faithfulness doesn’t shift or change based on our prayer life or whether we’ve been ‘good’. God is constant. Even when He seems quiet. Even when we are absent. God is constant.

About this Plan

Real Hope: Constant God

God will outlive our earth, and our earthly bodies. He is not only consistently present, He is consistent toward us – kind, loving, guiding, and continually forgiving. Amongst continual change, God is our constant. He is our North Star. His is our ever-present, all-knowing, personal God.
