Before the Vow

DAY 1 OF 5

Each season of my life has taught me more about whom I am becoming. Some seasons flew by like a blink of an eye, and others I prayed would end quickly. This season, however, I am holding onto it as long as I possibly can. The season I am currently in is one of refinement, pruning, and molding. I affectionately call this season of my life, my Esther season.

I am sure you are wondering what an Esther Season is. Well, I am so glad you asked!

An Esther Season is a season of transition. A season between seasons. It’s the time and space between courting and marriage.

I believe an Esther season is important because it gifts us the time and space to develop the skills necessary to become the person Christ wants us to be before taking marriage vows. In a season where our hearts are bubbling with joy and gratitude because we’ve found the one whom our soul loves while our minds and hands race in anticipation of the glorious day when we make that covenant commitment, God gives us an opportunity to seek Him in a new way and to be refined by his grace as we prepare for all that is to come. Transitions are a gift because they draw us closer to God in the midst of new and unfamiliar territory. Like Esther in the Bible, we find ourselves in a new place, preparing for a destiny that has only been partially revealed. Throughout this devotion, we will touch on the importance of knowing thyself, the ongoing sanctification process, building a partnership, and cultivating a fruitful life with your spouse-to-be.

Who you marry will greatly impact your future and the trajectory of your life forever. The person you marry is the person you hope to grow alongside, prayerfully, for a lifetime. In thinking about that, I want to take a moment to pray for you before we dive in:

Precious Lord, I thank you for the person starting this devotion. I pray that as they embark on their Esther season you cultivate your love within them. Create in them a clean heart and a renewed spirit. Refine them along this journey Lord and bless them in Jesus' name, Amen.
