Rescued From Darkness

DAY 4 OF 5

The Solution is a Who not a What

When faced with challenging circumstances we often ask ourselves: "what is the solution to my problem?"

It's a natural human response. We like to fix our things ourselves whenever we can. We like to take our circumstances into our own hands and simply acquire the tools we need to solve our problems ourselves. It's a noble approach and a commendable way to respond to difficulty.

But God offers something more.

Instead of offering things to solve our problems, he offers himself in the midst of our problems. He offers an exchange of authority over our problems. He makes our problems, his problems... if we would only let him.

Exchanging Authority with God

That is what God does on the cross: he lets our problem of our sins become his problem. That is also what God wants to do throughout all of your life. He wants you to quit being the god of your life and let him be God of all of it instead. It doesn't mean you won't do anything. It simply means you won't be creating the to-do list. It's simply letting God be who he is: God.

Think and Pray

One of the most compelling examples of accepting Christ as the solution instead of trying to find solutions ourselves is the story of Faustina. She is a student at Pope John Paul II School built on the grounds where the genocide occurred. She is also in some impossible circumstances. If she can have the courage and wisdom to give God authority over her life, we can too.

Watch her video. Then read the following Bible verses and pray this simple prayer to God if you are ready:

"God, I quit being in control of my life. You can have the control. Lead me every day. Amen."
