Did God Forget About Me?-Raising Children With Disabilities.

DAY 4 OF 5

Open Your Eyes

Raising a child with autism can often feel like a challenge. We can become overwhelmed by the daily struggles of parenting a child on the spectrum. But that does not mean we cannot find joy in the journey. Today, let us remember all of the beauty, talent, and gifts that our autistic children possess.

We can appreciate their unique perspectives on the world and their genuine enthusiasm for the things that light up their lives. Every autistic child is special in their own way, so let us take time to recognize the potential for greatness already present. Find the moments when our child amazes us, even if it’s something that might seem small to others. Celebrate their progress, even if it feels slow compared to what others may do.

We can also take time to recognize the traits that are unique to our autistic child. What special gifts or talents do they have? What unique combination of characteristics makes them stand out? There is greatness in every single one of us, including our children with autism. Take a step back, and appreciate the beauty in their being.

Most of all, remember that each day spent with our autistic child is a day spent full of potential for growth and joy. Embrace those moments of beauty and wonder, no matter how ordinary they may seem. Every step in this journey is worth celebrating. Let us take time to recognize all of the positive things about our children. Love them for who they are, and allow yourself to marvel at their beauty and talent. There is no better way to appreciate the positive side of parenting an autistic child.
