Trust God : A Holy Week Devotional

DAY 3 OF 4

Today we are going to reflect on how we trust God in our darkest hours. The day in between, where God has not yet brought about the answer or deliverance. Imagine what the disciples would have faced the day between Good Friday and Easter. In the last few days, Jesus was arrested, beaten, crucified and now He is dead. They are off in the distance as all these events unfold, just watching helplessly. What thoughts and emotions would have gripped their minds? Fear? For some yes, we see the account where Peter cuts of the ear of the soldier. Fear drives us to behave and feel things in ways that are not true.

There are days when God seems silent and there is no clear direction as what to expect next.

There are times God allows us to go through these tragedies, these seasons of uncertainties. For some, it may be a few days, months, or even years! The valley experience is different for everyone. Fear, if left unchecked, can cause our faith to waver at times. When we can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, when all hope has faded, what do we do?

In those days, we eagerly wait to hear our Master’s voice. When God’s silent, it doesn’t mean the story is over. When we can’t see ahead, it doesn’t mean there is no way ahead. God can work a resurrection out of the darkest, dimmest situation. That is exactly what happens at Easter! The disciples were in disarray. They had lost their hope, but just as the enemy seemed to have victory, God brought Jesus out of the grave! John 16:33 reminds us that despite the difficult times, Jesus has overcome the world!

Challenge

As we are taken through bleak times in our lives, let us remember to cling to His promises that He has given us. Fear will let the mind wander, but those are not legitimate responses.

We base our faith and actions on what God has said in His Word, not on what we see or do not see.

I will trust God in my darkest hour!
