Finding the Light in Mental Illness

DAY 1 OF 7

DAY 1

SPIRITUAL FORCES

Welcome to this week’s 3 Minutes A Day Series as we discuss mental illness alongside Scripture. By the end of the week, we will better understand what mental illness is and how we can conquer it.

First, I want to express in the strongest way I can that if you are struggling with a mental illness, it is not your fault, and nothing is wrong with you. For example, depression, anxiety, stress, worry, and fear are human reactions to the demonic spiritual forces fighting against your godly nature.

Mental illness can be described as the negative internal emotions you feel as you become conflicted between the demonic activity the mind experiences and the godly forces within your heart. It can be hard to overcome mental illness unless we understand all it encounters physically, mentally, spiritually, and systematically.

We will get into Mark 1:21-34, our Scripture for the week, starting tomorrow. However, I want to remind you today of something the Bible speaks about regularly so that your vision is focused on truth as we study together this week.

Scripture helps us understand that the enemy can manipulate our thoughts, but he can not manipulate our hearts.

Jeremiah 17:10 says:

10 “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”

You have been given full control over your heart, and God will search it to know your spirit. However, this Scripture from Jeremiah notes God examines the mind. The Hebrew word used here for examines is bāhan (pronounced baw- khan’), meaning test or prove by trial.

Since God Himself does not test us, He allows our minds to be tested by the enemy. God does this so that we are allowed to prove our heart’s desires through the trials. James 1:12 explains standing firm in faith while the enemy tries to manipulate us will be rewarded by the crown of life.

Tomorrow, we will start our study of Mark 1:21-34, but today I want to leave you with this thought: the world may tell you something is wrong if you struggle with mental illness. However, the world making those implications happens to be powered by Satan.

God holds all authority. I’ll see you tomorrow as we begin to learn how to find the light and overcome mental illness.
