THOUGHT OF THE DAY
How we approach scripture matters. It’s easy to approach the text through our personal lens. However, using our cultural and theological worldview to shape the text can be incorrect. Before reading John 14 for today’s reading, go to YouTube and search ‘The Bible Project’ videos on John 1-12 and John 13-21. These two videos will help us see the cultural and theological underpinnings of the Gospel of John.
Let’s continue to walk through John 14:18-21:
I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.
Today, read this portion of scripture out loud three times, each slower than the last. What does this scripture make you think? After watching ‘The Bible Project’ video, did anything change?
GUIDED PRAYER
Father, help me to dwell on Your Words today. As I go about my day, reveal to me new facets of Your Word through Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me. Lord, continue to work on my heart, and help me to look more like Jesus each day as I dwell on Your Word. Help me to form the habit of meditating on Your words as I continue to read Your scripture in the coming days. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
