Made New Prayer Devotional

DAY 14 OF 20

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

If you have been around the church in any capacity, you have probably heard people talk about serving. As Christians, we have the great joy of serving people for the sake of Jesus. As Teresa of Avila once said, “Christ has no body but yours.” We are His hands and feet to show compassion to the world and take care of those in need. Prayer itself is a means of service. Not only is it important to serve those in need, but we also get to pray with and for them.

Maybe you are not quite sure how you can serve your church and community. One of the best ways to start is by praying for God to open your eyes to the needs in your church community. God will often show you an area that could use some help or support as a way of inviting you into serving with Him. Through prayer, we are able to partner with the work the Lord is doing and see where He is leading us to serve. In what ways can you serve your church and community this week?

Take 10-15 minutes and pray about how you might serve your community. Ask God to show you what gifts He has given you for the sake of the church. If you need help getting started, you can pray the guided prayer.

GUIDED PRAYER

Lord, thank You for loving us and pouring out Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for giving me gifts and talents for the sake of my community and the world. I pray that You show me where and how I can serve You. Show me the areas in which my gifts can be used to bless others. Give me the boldness to step out of my comfort zone and trust You. Show me how to best serve You and Your people. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
