Twelve Names of Christ for Christmas

DAY 4 OF 12

THE EVERLASTING FATHER

“And his name shall be called . . . the Everlasting Father” (Isaiah 9:6).

This name was prophesied in Isaiah to be given to God’s Son! Was the Son to be one with the Father? He is absolutely One in triunity with the Father. And not only as seen in this Scripture, but many others support this prophetic title for Jesus Christ. Here are three:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).
“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” (Psalm 90:2).
“If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it suffices us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:7–11).

On December 9, 1866, C.H. Spurgeon preached about Jesus, the Everlasting Father,

“Jesus always was, he always is, he always shall be. He is eternal in all his attributes, in all his offices, and in all his might, power, and willingness to bless, comfort, guard, and crown his chosen people. Generation makes us the sons of Adam; regeneration acknowledges us as the sons of Christ.”

God knew that we would need to hear that our Savior is also our Everlasting Father. One of the foundations of society is the father. And good fatherhood is extremely important in a family and at the very soul of a society’s well-being. Our Everlasting Father is everlastingly good, that we might all now say, “It is well with my soul” this Christ-celebration season.

Kids’ Corner

Make cards of the many names of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6 to place around the house or string above a doorway or mantel. Using cardstock, each family member can write and decorate a name or title of Christ. Then take a slightly larger piece of cardstock for a background. Glue each Name card on top of another slightly larger piece of cardstock (these look great on different colored backgrounds). Add loops of ribbon or twine, string them together with a cord, and hang them to display.
