Year of the Bible: Part Ten of Twelveಮಾದರಿ
Now, Separate to Me
Today's reading reveals the confirming call of God for Paul and Barnabas to go and "preach the Gospel to all the world." This prophetic call to action was for the work both Paul and Barnabas had been preparing to undertake. This was not a new idea or surprise calling but a confirmation to Paul and Barnabas that the time to launch their evangelistic ministry to the world was now.
Notice what Paul and Barnabas had been doing in preparation for this ministry: "ministering to the Lord." The definition of the Greek word for "ministered" meant performing religious or charitable acts, fulfilling an office, discharging a function, or serving God with prayers and fasting. Paul and Barnabas were busy serving the needs of others while also preparing to take the message of Jesus to the world. They were actively engaged in gathering together with other believers to worship Jesus and pray together. Then, when God was ready for them to move forward, they were prepared—not surprised—and acted swiftly in obedience to the call to go.
Question: What ministry has God called you to? What actions are you taking in preparation for that ministry? How are you filling your days as you wait for the "go now" call from the Lord?
Prayer: Father, thank you for the gifts and talents You have given me. I offer them up to You for Your service and Your glory. Open my ears so I may hear Your preparation work for me as I wait on You. Thank you for the joy You give in calling me to Your service.
Go Deeper: Our God is a God of order, not confusion. He is a God who delights in revealing Himself to His own. His ministry call for your life is not hidden in the shadows. Most likely, His calling revolves around the gifts and talents He has given you. As you take an inventory of your gifts and talents, offer them back to Him in worship and prayer. Listen for His voice to direct your steps of preparation. Become active in the daily life of your church family. Read your Bible, pray often, and worship often. As you do, you will hear God speak, "now separate to Me".
