Daily Prayers for My Wife

DAY 4 OF 21

BE SLOW TO ANGER

[Love] is not easily angered. I CORINTHIANS 13:5

Being slow to anger can be very challenging at times. It requires patience and self‑control to discipline our emotions not to react quickly and harshly. Even with all the persecution, lies, hatred, and taunting Jesus experienced, He rarely responded in anger. He wouldn’t take the bait. He also kept love, not retaliation, at the forefront of His actions. Anger is not bad or wrong—it’s an emotion God created us to have. But a lack of restraint and discernment about when to let it surface can be damaging. Oh, that we may strive to be as slow to anger as Jesus is, no matter how often our anger is provoked.

Father, I know that learning to be slow to anger is a process, but it’s a trait I want to develop. Help me to keep love, not retribution, at the core of my actions. Most of all, I don’t want to say or do anything in anger that would hurt my wife and cause further division. Help my mindset to be one of fighting for us, not against her. Give me the desire and self‑discipline to talk through our problems amicably or not say anything at all and be a better listener. Help me to stay calm so that we will both stay calm. Thank You for being the supreme example to follow; now help me to take on more of Your character the next time I’m tempted to lose control. IN YOUR NAME AND GRACE I PRAY. AMEN.
