On Our Knees: A 5 Day Devotional on Prayerಮಾದರಿ
Pray for the Impossible
The story of God delivering His people from slavery and oppression never gets old to me. God hears His people, and Moses leads the ragtag band of slaves toward freedom from a brutal empire.
It is a story full of hope—one that shows us God will make a way where we don’t yet see one. Yet it seems that whenever I’m faced with my own Red Sea moments, I resort to being discouraged. But one thing about the character of our God: He’s consistent. God began working on this Red Sea rescue years earlier—from the moment Moses was born and placed in a basket to float right into the presence of Pharaoh’s daughter (Exodus 2:3–6).
And the best movie director couldn’t invent a more miraculous climax than the Red Sea parting for His people to escape, then closing it, so the world’s most fearsome army is drowned. The lesson is that God is always planning deliverance for His people in some way or another. The greater story is that God is working for our redemption in every detail. He doesn’t forget His people or abandons them.
It took Moses a whole lifetime to get to a place where he stood in front of a panicked, fear-stricken people and, against all odds, proclaimed, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm, and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today” (14:13). In some situations, I can find it difficult to pray a big prayer or believe that God will truly move in miraculous ways.
But just like in the story of the Red Sea, whenever I step back and focus my heart on the bigger picture, I am reminded that God has been at work the entire time. The Red Sea is the place where we all can be reminded that nothing is impossible with our God.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Heavenly Father, help me to embrace the truth that You will be there to deliver me in my Red Sea moments. When the world feels like too much, give me the courage to pray for the impossible and the wisdom to see that You have been working for my rescue all along. Amen.
RESPOND
What is the Red Sea in your life right now? Do you believe God can rescue you? Can you see where God is already working in your life to bring victory to your situation?
