[Life of David] Dying Done: Bucket List Checked

DAY 3 OF 7

A Comeback Story

Do you ever look back on your life and regret where you were? Sometimes I go back to my old neighborhood and drive around, and certain places I pass through bring some kind of regret. However, I am almost instantly reminded of how God has brought me a long way from where I once was. Those drives are a great encouragement for me to not regret where I was, but instead, reflect on how far I have come.

When looking back, do not regret where you were; instead, reflect on how far you have come. Do not dwell on the past. If you believe in Jesus, he has already taken care of your past. His death on the cross paid for all of our sins. It is finished. The old is gone and now the new has come—the Kainos, the new creation that we are.

Every single human being on earth, all of us have things in our past we regret. However, we should not focus on them. When such thoughts start flooding our minds, we should start thinking about how far we have come. We were different people once, but now we are who we are in Christ. When we receive Jesus as our Savior, He gives us new life. God is faithful. When we come to Him, He gives us a promise of a future and a hope.

God loves writing comeback stories. We see many of these stories in the Bible. Joseph was sold by his brothers, framed by his boss’s wife, and thrown into prison; yet if we keep reading his story in Genesis, we can see all the amazing things God did through his life. The same thing happens with Job. He loses everything, and if we keep reading until the end of the book of Job, we can see his restoration. The same sort of thing happened with Moses and Peter—they, and other people from the Bible, have beautiful comeback stories.

The greatest comeback story of all time is the story of Jesus’s resurrection. His is the comeback story of all comeback stories. Great lives do not always have great beginnings, but they can have great endings.

Will the beginning of your story be different than the ending? You may feel like the most unlikely pick. So did David. Allow God to take you, shape you, and make you who He wants you to be!

About this Plan

[Life of David] Dying Done: Bucket List Checked

The bucket list that satisfies the heart is fulfilling the purposes of God. As we fall in love with Him, seek to know Him, and remain faithful to Him, His purposes will find us. From that space, we can die “done” with a bucket list checked off and a life fulfilled.
