Finding Joy: The Little Thingsಮಾದರಿ
Little Thing # 3: Relish in Taste
What greater sense than the sense of taste? I realize one could argue that sight is the most important sense, but for me, a wonderful meal is not only satisfying but also comforting. I’ve also been known to enjoy a good glass of wine occasionally. With all the dieting and obsession with weight loss in today’s culture, we often deprive ourselves of great food or a decadent dessert. Give yourself a pass once in a while. Of course, the Bible teaches against gluttony and drunkenness, but one excellent meal or one glass of a deliciously aged port, occasionally, is not a sin.
There are many examples in the Bible of food being a symbol of appreciation. It is used as a gift, part of a celebration, or as part of a covenant or blessing. Reflect on today’s verses and think of how delicious meals (in moderation) can be a celebration of taste and a beautiful gift from God.
Our Father in Heaven blessed us with between 2000 and 4000 taste buds (that we know of). So why not show Him your appreciation by exploring them once in a while? A tasty meal releases endorphins (feel-good hormones) and God gave us those too. Embrace your sense of taste as one way to increase your joy and experience the love God has for us.
