Year of the Bible: Part Seven of Twelve

DAY 18 OF 30

Wisdom is to be Found and Cherished

The book of James tells us, “if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask God...and it will be given to him” (1:5-6). God gave us the book of Proverbs to help us discern what wisdom looks like. Tony Evans challenges us, “If you want to know where your trust is, ask yourself, ‘Where do I turn first when I need help?’”

Much like a bank account, our life draws on the resources we have put into our account. We cannot take out what we have not put in. We are challenged in Proverbs to invest in learning wisdom. We accumulate great wealth for living when we seek wisdom and allow God to show us how to thrive with His Spirit guiding our every step. Dependence on God is fundamental to our ability to experience any success.

Dr. Evans states, “God created the heavens and the earth by wisdom—in other words, wisdom is part of the fabric of the universe. Reject wisdom, and you’re rejecting the reason for your existence. God accomplished His glorious work with wisdom. So why attempt your own work without it?”

God relied on wisdom to form our world. Thus, we were formed from the wisdom contained in Him. Our source of wisdom is the One who possesses all the wisdom that exists. Our great God participates in a relationship with us, and we can ask at any moment for the wealth of knowledge He contains. He tells us to ask for wisdom because He wants to give it to us!

When we seek wisdom, we are wise. When we cherish wisdom, we are honoring the knowledge of God and choosing life over death. When we value wisdom, we choose better living and a deeper understanding of all things.

Question: Will you take time to stop and seek God for wisdom before making decisions today?

Prayer: God, I want to trust in You with all my heart. I know that my understanding is flawed and has blind spots. Please lead me today in Your wisdom and help me walk in wisdom beyond my comprehension. I yield to You today.
