Royals Part I: United Kingdom

DAY 12 OF 21

At the King's Table

In the lives of the kings, we don't have many opportunities to actually see them display kindness and mercy. David's action to invite Mephibosheth to His table is an extraordinary act. By doing so he gave Mephibosheth dignity, honor, and value far beyond anything he deserved. Mephibosheth had nothing in life. As a lame man, he would have had no status, no hope, and no way out. Lo Debar, the place he was living meant "no pasture," "no word," or "no communication." He was at the bottom of the barrel.

Because of his love for Jonathan, David chose to bring Mephibosheth out of this place and gave him the place of one of his own sons. He gave him a seat at the King's table. His life would have been utterly turned around.

While this story might seem like not much on its own, it points forward to another story—the story where God chose to bring us out from the bottom of the barrel—the place where we had no hope and no way out. He turned our lives completely around. Not only that but He also gave his one and only Son, the true King, so we have a place at the King's table.

Thought Point

What does it mean to you to have a place at God's table? What place did He bring you out of?

Prayer Point

Thank God for His grace offered to you. Thank Him for what He has brought you into and what He has brought you out of.
