Transition: A Time of Uncertainty
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.” (Isaiah 6:1NIV)
When there's a historical event in a nation, there is often a time of transition that accompanies it. For example, changes occur when a king or president dies. And then there are times in our lives when God says, "Come on, I'm taking you to another place now." Whatever the case may be, times of transition can be met only by understanding God's process to fulfill his calling on our lives amid that change. This is especially true now when events unfolding on the world stage indicate that we are presently living not only in a time of transition but one of turmoil and uncertainty as well.
One of these times in the Old Testament was when King Uzziah died. King Uzziah was generally one of the better kings in the southern kingdom of Judah after Israel had been divided into north and south. What was going to happen now that he was gone? After all, there had been some evil kings reigning before him. This was now a notable change in the nation's history, and it produced natural fear. But at this critical moment, God revealed to Isaiah another king—the King who reigned in heaven! And Isaiah exclaimed, "In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord high and exalted, seated on a throne..."
God wants us to know that when things on earth are tumultuous and seem out of control, his throne in heaven has never been shaken! God sits on that throne. Isaiah was taken up in a vision above this world of worry and concern, and he saw that God was still reigning sovereignly over the earth.
Let us remember this in our times of transition. We may not understand everything God permits, but we know that he sits on his throne, and he will have the last word. Let's come before him with all confidence today, seeking a fresh revelation of how great and faithful our King Jesus is, despite the chaos around us.
