Peace in the Midst of Turmoil

DAY 1 OF 5

In today’s world it is common place to feel the pressure mounting when we turn on the news. With each new calamity we must guard against panic and choose peace in the midst of turmoil.

What we are experiencing as a world, as nations, and as individuals is certainly concerning, but we aren’t left without a playbook of how to live in these times of uncertainty.

Yet, how do we have peace in the midst of turmoil?

First of all, we pray. It’s an obvious answer, but often underrated. However, prayer changes everything! God’s Word promises that He hears us when we pray. He says, “Call on Me and come and pray to Me and I will listen to you.” (Jeremiah 29:12) The key is that we must come to Him with our fears and anxiety. He alone holds the universe in the palm of His hand, so why wouldn’t we call upon His name during times of turmoil?

Next we prepare to be a light in the darkness by sharing a favorite Scripture on social media or by offering to pick up our elderly neighbor’s groceries. Take opportunities to point others to Jesus while they themselves are looking for peace.

The final key is to focus on the peace that only He can provide. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)The only way that we can receive this peace is to let our minds be controlled by the Spirit and to trust in Him completely…even if the news reports worsen, even when we’re disheartened with current affairs…we can still trust Him and receive His peace.

Pray with confidence that He is listening. Prepare to be the light. And find peace in the midst of turmoil by trusting in Him.
